Meet Merlin, a very handsome Sphynx boy who arrived at the shelter in March 2026. At 4 years and 10 months old, this charming fellow is looking for a calm home environment that perfectly suits his unique needs. He loves his treats, which is one surefire way to win him over, and his favorite toy is a string toy that he chases around for a little exercise. Merlin can be very sweet and affectionate, but he can also get easily overstimulated, which can lead to biting and scratching. He needs a home with people willing to offer him lots of enrichment and stimulation to keep his mind and body active.
Merlin needs some time to settle in, and he's looking for a home without other cats or dogs. Small animals are okay, but they must be securely housed. He's not a fan of other cats, so he'll need a home where there are no visiting cats to the garden. Speaking of gardens, Merlin is looking for a home with a private garden to spend time in during the warmer weather. To keep him engaged, especially during the winter months when he cannot go outdoors, he'll need plenty of enrichment and stimulation.
Merlin has no medical conditions, but he does have waxy ears, which is typical of the Sphynx breed. As a Sphynx, he will need to be bathed and his ears regularly cleaned. He will also need to be kept nice and warm in the winter months using lots of blankets in the home.
Breeds like the Sphynx have extreme conformation, meaning that their body features are exaggerated. This can include having floppy ears or a flat face and shorter nose (brachycephalic). These characteristics can negatively affect their health and welfare. For example, cats with floppy ears can develop painful joint disease and those with flattened faces may find it difficult to breathe and struggle in the heat. Whilst not every cat will suffer these problems, it's important to stop and think before adopting or buying one. Due to these health issues regularly affecting certain breeds, you may face higher insurance and veterinary costs even if your pet is unaffected.
