Ben arrived at Mayhew at the beginning of October after his owner died. He has been behaviourally assessed by our cattery staff and given any medical treatment required by our veterinary team. All cats leave our care microchipped, neutered and have been given flea and worming treatment as well as any vaccinations (at least first). Lastly, every cat adopted from us will also go home with 4 weeks free pet insurance. Ben struggled to settle in our cattery and environment which managed with medication which we have continued to use while he has been in foster care. To manage his stress during changes in his environment we will be rehoming him on this medication and any adopter will be offered behavioural advice from our behaviourist once he goes home.
Ben is a gentle and shy senior cat who enjoys a calm and peaceful home, preferably living with one or two adults. He may be reserved at first and prefers to hide at the beginning, but with patience he is showing good progress and growing confidence each week during the settling-in period. Ben has a cute meow and a sweet, excited chirping purr at feeding time, when his friendly side truly shines — tail up and happy. He is slowly coming out of his shell, approaching people on his own terms, offering gentle head nudges, and allowing a little petting, purring when doing so. Ben enjoys playing with soft balls or feathers on a string, having little bursts of playful energy despite his age and despite sometimes seeming wobbly on his legs. He enjoys his own company, so doesn’t mind being left on his own. With a kind and patient owner willing to go at his pace, Ben has the potential to become a loving cat in a calm and understanding home.
