Du Plessis is a handsome chap who is now starting to feel more like himself again. He's had quite a bit going on in a short space of time and its been nice to see him find his feet along the way. He is a friendly fella who loves snuggling up in bed with his foster carer, and receiving lots of fuss and attention. He can be wary of loud noises, but he quickly bounces back and resumed playing with his favourite ball toys. He could be fine to live with kids who'll let him find his way and he is looking for a chill home that can give him all the fuss he deserves. So, if Du Plessis is your kind of man, keep reading to see if you could be his purr-fect match and give him the fur-ever home he deserves...
Du Plessis arrived at Mayhew at the start of July after he was found abandoned as a stray cat. He has been behaviourally assessed by our cattery staff and given any medical treatment required by our veterinary team. All cats leave our care microchipped, neutered and have been given flea and worming treatment as well as any vaccinations (at least first). Lastly, every cat adopted from us will also go home with 4 weeks free pet insurance. Du Plessis arrived with two broken canine teeth which can be commonly caused by fighting in entire cats. These were maxillary (upper) canines, and both were extracted due to the severity of the fractures. The condition is considered resolved and no modifications to his lifestyle are required. He has also had some soft motions that were treated with probiotics and a sensitivity food diet. When neutered the vets also repaired an umbilical hernia which should be monitored but appears to have healed well. Du Plessis has a history of allergies resulting in itchy skin. The exact cause of the allergy is not confirmed – in cats this may be due to fleas, or environmental triggers (such as dust or pollen). He has been treated with regular flea control, a steroid injections and ongoing steroid medication and some cream as the sore patches of skin needed some extra care initially. New owners should continue strict flea control, unless advised otherwise by their vet. Strict flea control has been implemented, but this alone has not fully controlled the symptoms. Long-acting steroid injections are being used to help control the itchiness and skin inflammation and he may require lifelong treatment or management to control symptoms. You will be need to monitor his response and adjust treatment if flare-ups occur with consultation with your own private vet. Lastly Du Plessis has had some mild cat flu symptoms. This has been seen in the form of the odd sneeze. He has not had any treatment for this and should just be monitored in the home.
Du Plessis is a sweet, affectionate boy who loves to give me head bumps and little washes. He likes human company, but also likes his own space. He loves to sleep in hidden places like under the bed and in the wardrobe, not because he's scared but just because he likes it there. He is very playful and particularly likes his stack of balls toy which keeps him entertained for ages. He loves to cuddle up as close to me as possible at night although he is a bit of a bed hog. He can be a bit nervous of sudden/loud noises and may hide away, but never for very long. Overall he's just a very loving, friendly boy.
